Russell's Mooney Finishes 30th at State Golf Tourney
Jake Mooney wrapped up his freshman season for the Russell High School boys golf team with a second day score of 83 at the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 3A State Tournament on Tuesday at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City.
Mooney finishes 30th among all golfers with a two-day total of 165. Lane Workman of Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail won the individual state title with a score of 142, 23 strokes ahead of Mooney and four strokes ahead of second place finisher Owen Evans of Olathe Heritage Christian Academy.
Olathe Heritage Christian Academy edged out Sabetha for the Class 3A team title by four strokes. Other state champions included Shawnee Mission East in Class 6A, Wichita Bishop-Carroll in Class 5A, Wamego in Class 4A, Salina-Sacred Heart in Class 2A, Montezuma-South Gray in Class 1A and Lakeside-Downs won its third consecutive title in the Sand Greens Division.
