Russell's Moresco, Windholz Qualify for State

Russell's Tyler Moresco and Jacob Windholz are headed to Hays for the Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament.
The two RHS seniors qualified after finishing in the top four of their weight classes at the Norton Regional on Saturday, February 19.
Moresco went 2-1 in the regional and finished runner-up at 195 pounds. After getting a first round bye, he beat Mason McCoy from Atwood-Rawlins County by a fall in the quarterfinals, then earned a 5-0 decision victory over Luke Franklin from Smith Center in the semifinals before losing to Kyle Werner from Plainville by an 8-3 decision in the championship match. Moresco will take a 20-3 record to state.
Windholz also went 2-1 and finished regional runner-up at 145 pounds. After receiving a first round bye, he scored a 6-2 win over Brennen Pfannenstiel from Norton in the quarterfinals, then won a thriller sudden victory over Duncan Bell from Hoxie before losing a 1-0 decision to Reece Grafel from Oberlin-Decatur Community in the regional championship match. Windholz is 27-5 this season and is headed back to state for the second-consecutive season.
Four other Broncos wrestled in the Norton Regional. Teagen Pfeifer just missed a trip to state. The RHS freshman went 2-2 in the regional at 160 pounds and lost in the consolation semifinals, one victory shy of making the 3rd/4th place match and qualifying for state. Pfeifer closed out a solid season with a 21-12 record. Brayden Suchy also went 2-2 in the regional at 152 and fell two wins shy of making the 3rd/4th place match to qualify for state. The Bronco freshman went 13-12 this winter. Max Self went 0-2 at 285 and closed out his senior season with a 5-10 mark. Dylan Sullivan went 0-2 at 138 and finished his freshman campaign with a 5-11 record.
The 3-2-1A Boys State Wrestling Tournament will be held at Gross Coliseum on the campus of Fort Hays State University in Hays on Friday and Saturday, February 25-26. We will have reports each day on KRSL Russell Radio along with coverage on KRSL.com.
