It wasn't the ending both Russell's Jacob Windholz and Sylvan-Lucas' Tra Barrientes were both hoping for at the Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, February 27 at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays.

Both wrestlers came into the state tournament state ranked and with high hopes of a medal. But both went 0-2.

For Windholz, he lost his first round match to Kai Allen from Silver Lake on a 3-1 decision and then in the consolation round, the RHS junior fell to Ethan Elliott from Wellsville on a defensive fall (5:54). Windholz finishes his season with a 26-8 record and makes it back to state for the third-consecutive year.

Barrientes was looking to repeat as the 285 state champion, but a shoulder injury prevented that from happening. The Sylvan-Lucas senior was forced to bow out of his first round match against Humbolt's Andrew Watts and do the same in his consolation match against Hoxie's Brandon Baker. Barrientes ends up with a 27-2 record and qualifies for state for the second-straight year.
