What a Season! Russell's Ney Advances to State

Russell's Jaden Ney has qualified for the Class 4-1A Girls State Wrestling Tournament.

The RHS freshman punched her ticket after winning the 132 pound weight division at the Colby Regional on Saturday, February 12. After receiving a first round bye, Ney pinned Ivy Davis from Lakin in the semifinals and then took down Daijah Jones from Hoisington by a fall in the championship match. Ney improves to 27-4 this season.

Tionna Napue had high hopes of also making the state tournament, but it wasn't meant to be. The RHS freshman, who was the top seed at 120 pounds, ended up going 1-2. After getting a first round bye, Napue beat Reese Watkins from Lakin by a fall in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she lost to Maya Tarbel from Ulysses by a fall and then fell to Isabella Keesee from Phillipsburg by an 8-0 decision in the consolation semifinals. Napue wraps up an outstanding season with a 33-4 record.

The 4-1A Girls State Wrestling Tournament will be held at the Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina on February 23-24. KRSL Russell Radio will have reports each day along with coverage on KRSL.com.
